Hazards of Eating Processed and Packaged Foods

Followed by Cocoa Cola and Pepsi episodes where pesticides were found in their products the Maggi Noodle episode is just new. Non Government Organizations and Government agencies are continuously evaluating products sold in India by multinationals.

Though the products are often found with contamination within prescribed limits things can go out of hand. In case of Maggi Noodles  the lead contents where atrociously high to the tune of 17 percent per million instead of .07 ppm which is the limit. The noodles also contained high level of Mono Sodium Glutamate or MSG. Also called ajinomoto powder it is used in the way Chinese food is made in India. Excess doses of both lead and MSG are harmful for human health.

This was first reported by a health official in Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh in India. As the controversy erupted there have been a spate of claims and the products have undergone repeated testing by state governments. Although there will be counter claims and counter blames this has assured that the country is in a high state of alert as far as activities powerful conglomerates are concerned.
